Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science
FIS 6th grade teacher Arvella Jergesen is recognized nationally by the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) for her outstanding contribution to the teaching and learning of mathematics and science.
Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Teacher of the Year
Ms. Edmonson was recognized as VFW teacher of the year
Nevada Association of School Boards (NASB) Administrator of the Year
Principal Rob Jacobson was selected as the NASB Administrator of the Year
Reading at FIS
FIS students read 25,051 books and successfully tested on 20,184 books during the 2015-16 school year.
2015-16 Reading MAPs data indicates that our focus on Informational Text has significantly improved equaling our achievement levels in Literature, Vocabulary Acquisition and Use.
“9-11” ceremony celebrated 27 honored guests/first responders
Veteran’s Day Assembly celebrated 95 heroes
Student assistance fund raised approximately $15,000 to support students in need; everything from bikes, shoes, coats and more.
6th grade teachers received over $7,000 in travel grants.
FIS helped 30 families during the holidays celebrate Christmas.
FIS with the gracious help of the Rotary Club assist 34 families weekly with the “Weekend Backpack” program.
Roughly 100 students participated in our intramural basketball program
6th grade girls and boys cross country teams have won titles 6 of last 7 years
